AN UPDATE ON OUR LIVE STREAMING THROUGH YOUTUBE
As many of you may be aware we’ve been having some major issues with our live web streaming over the past month. I want to take a moment to give you a brief updateon the situation.
Two years ago we moved to YouTube to handle all our live streaming and video archives… it was a pretty radical move because (as far as we know) no-one was using YouTube for regular live broadcasts in this way, OR uploading the volume of videos we were - thousands of videos, each over two hours long! The move has saved us over $100,000 in that time and has been a huge blessing.
YouTube is home to millions (perhaps billions) of videos and in order to handle the possibility of them hosting copyrighted materials they setup and incredible system that scans all video content for anything that is copyrighted. If copyrighted material is found then the video get’s flagged and either begins showing ads (to pay the copyright holder) or is removed entirely.
As you can imagine, in the thousands of videos we’ve uploaded there has been plenty of recorded music, whether it’s just a CD we play during ministry time or it’s a someone’s backing music to their missions report. Because of these hundreds (maybe thousands) of copyright issues our account has been suspended from creating new live content.
How do we fix it?
The truth is, we’re not completely sure. Google is a huge company and it seems there aren’t any human beings we can speak to. Our best bet is to sort through all the videos and on a case by case basis deal with the offending content… this is a very time consuming process. Our hope is that once there is some form of resolution on each video we will then be permitted to continue live streaming.
We’re doing all we can to resolve this as quickly as possible. Please pray for our team and that God would work on our behalf also.
